This week’s Goal Digger encompasses everything GDNZ is about and more! Words I live by are, if you don’t ask, you don’t get! Jessica got in touch with me and showcased in a very well written email what she is all about, her goals and visions and asked if it was at all possible if I could help spread awareness of the issues she has been raising on her blog! And here we are!! An inspirational read and more than a few amazing tips on holistic wellness and how to live a fulfilling life!! Dig in to the world of Jess Lea.

Tell us a little bit about yourself …

I’m in the middle of trying to balance gym ownership, daily management and a sports career. It’s a day to day juggling act that I haven’t yet got balanced! I’m 25 & live in Wellington, I’m a volunteer senior Surf Life Guard, a National Development Squad Netball Umpire and a business owner. I train 10-12 times per week and between that I work at our gym full time. I take classes, boot-camps, personal training clients and on top of that, I ensure management of the staff & facility.

Became a Gym owner at 24 & launched a blog tackling real issues that are often hard to talk about, from depression, anxiety and failure through to cancer and the lack of direction people can experience.

I’m a risk taker because …

I set my goals too high and then work to extreme limits to achieve them. What I can produce in my sporting career, I expect the same levels of growth or development in my working career.

My goal for my clients is …

To understand and know that health begins from the inside out and that health is a whole package from mental, emotional, spiritual through to physical. I hope from their time with me, they learn that results come with hard work, but to know that they are always more than capable of achieving those desired changes. To know and understand that they are always much stronger than they think.

I believe in a holistic approach to health and wellness because …

This approach encompasses the person as a whole, not aspects or parts of a person, the whole package supporting health & wellness.

In a passive, easy way it talks you through facing fears, making your own pathway and simply learning from mistakes. Its a light-hearted reminder that with applied effort, you can create the life you dream of. It may be a childrens book, but adults will learn far more from reading it.

Restorative Yoga. Incredible. Try it, I can’t recommend it enough.

The best piece of advice I would give my 16 year old self …

Be patient, keep at it and start turning your dreams to goals and then your goals will become your reality. Let the small stuff go, start moulding the life you dream of.

My top 3 tips for living a kick-ass fulfilling life …

  1. Never sit back and expect goals to be accomplished without hard work.
  2. Always ask for help, a team of people will always be stronger than one individual who thinks they can do everything on their own.
  3. Take ownership of your goals, the pathway to achieving those, the challenges that will arise, own it, grow and adapt with it. Set your goal so big that you can’t achieve it until you grow into the person who can.

My typical day from AM to PM …

5:45: Monday, up to get to training for  6:15: I do a strength class, then a metabolic class. Work from 9am-6pm, then back into town for Restorative Yoga from 7-8pm. I take a spin class, boot camps and clients throughout the day, while catching up with anything missed from the weekend. Head home after Yoga & do meal prep for the next day.

Bonus Info | A few things you may not know about me …

  • I love baking raw food! (see ‘cheesecake’…amaze-balls!)
  • I’m obsessed with Lush Bath Bombs..Recovery, self love and relaxation all in one
  • I believe hugs make the world go around and there is always an excuse for one
  • I love doing small, thoughtful things for people to brighten their day
  • I thought my Mum invented Butterfly kisses
  • Giraffes are my favourite animal….I would own one if I was allowed.
  • Ecoya Candles are my thing…I light them at night to try and wind down.
  • I’m incredibly proud of my clients & members, they truly are some of the most incredible people you will meet, every day they remind me why my job doesn’t feel like a job at all.
  • I love photos, moments captured and treasured, I love those priceless moments that money can’t buy.
  • I’m that person who will make people get up early to watch a sun rise or wait around to see a sunset.
  • I lose the plot over puns…and feel the need to explain them to everyone!
  • Sunflowers make everyone happy…especially me!

Mostly, I whole heartedly believe that if you want something, get off your butt and go get it. Today is all you have, tomorrow is not promised and yesterday is gone. When you’re facing challenges, opportunities or obstacles, ask yourself ‘will I regret it, if I don’t take this opportunity?’ If they answer is yes, face up to it. Is it a fear? Tackle it. Step, by step. Start turning your ‘I don’t think I can’ into ‘I know I can & I will.’ No one is going to deliver your dreams to you, it takes work, failure, courage, self-belief and the ability to pick yourself back up to try again. It’s going to be hard, you will want to quit, but that’s where the growth is, that’s when you learn about who you are as a person and how badly you want to create positive change in your life or to start owning those dreams, turning them into goals and then making them your reality. Love Jess X
