Hey gorgeous ladies! Tell us a little bit about yourselves…
Megs: I’m 22 and I’m a Professional Squash Player and Personal Trainer from Blenheim. I play on the squash tour overseas a lot of the year and train out of Blenheim when I’m home. I also run my personal training business and do squash coaching while I’m home which keeps me extremely busy!! I’m a massive foodie especially anything healthy, fresh and created by us. I absolutely love spending time in the kitchen creating recipes for the blog.
Soph: I’m 23 and an Elite Lightweight Rower for NZ. I compete overseas each year for about 3 months in Europe while racing at World Cup Regattas and World Championships, which I won this year with my partner Julia Edward. I also have a HUGE passion for cooking/baking, wellbeing, health and basically everything health & fitness related. I am a qualified personal trainer and health coach. I am currently studying Nutritional Science as well and all booked in for my yoga teacher training end of next year (so excited!!)
I am the bomb diggity because I have recently…
M: Nothing on Soph’s World Titles, but I recently just cracked into the world top 40 for the first time!
S: I won back to back World Championships in the LW2X 2014/15 with Julia Edward!
I was held back from achieving my goals when…
M: I had heart surgery last year which was a bit of a shock to me. I was so gutted to miss some major events which I was all set to go to overseas. It is also meant I had to let my world ranking drop back for a few months. I just told myself that there are people a lot worse off than me and that I was extremely lucky they had found my heart condition when they did.
M: Hmmm I flew on Malaysian airlines the week after the flight went missing last year… Does that count? Haha
S: I like to jump out of planes and off bridges…
Currently Digging for…
M: To break into the World Top 30 for Squash
S: Make the lightweight double for the Olympic team next year
The best part of sharing our journey together on our blog Megs & Soph…
M: I absolutely love sharing the blog with Soph as we have a lot in common and share similar goals. We seem to bounce lots of ideas off each other and when we see each other it’s normally a crazy bake off & eating session.
S: Agreed!! I love sharing my passion with one of my best friends and it has definitely made us closer with a special bond (over food haha & fitness).
Our top tips to promote positive health and wellness…
- I think not getting too caught up in all the latest diets and fads. They can all get a bit overwhelming. Stick to eating things as close to their natural state as possible but still allow yourself to enjoy the odd treat when you feel like it.
- Get out in the fresh air each day. It is really important just to breath and move your body some way you enjoy whether it’s walking your dog, a light stretch, yoga or meditating. You’ll always feel so refreshed afterwards.
- Doing what you love as the old cliche goes “find a job that you never have to work a day in your life” – I think we are so far nailing this one 😉
- Smile when you’re feeling down it’s an instant pick me up and also remember to laugh at yourself and not be so serious! We share a lot of our own fails and mishaps on our snapchat too because no one is perfect and we want to share the bloopers, they are bloody funny!

When self-doubt and CBF creeps in you stalk … because …
M+S: @amandabisk – that chick is unreal and as a former elite athlete we find her so relatable, she is motivating and has one killer bod!
M+S: @motivatemenz – Makaia is super positive and motivating. She’s also very relatable and realistic. We love how she tells the truth when she has off days.
M+S: @TarshiNzYogi – her pictures are incredible and inspire me so much plus she’s an awesome friend.
M: Soph – Amazing person, she trains hard, always motivates me if I’m feeling shit and we always have a good laugh.
S: Megs – She is so bloody awesome when I feel a bit down about something she always picks me up and cheers me on, it is great being able to share stuff with her even though its different sports she totally understands the things we go through and vice versa. She’s got guts, talent and is hilarious, kudos for the amount she has to travel as well airports and planes are pretty boring after a while, lets be honest!
When I just need to laugh I …
M: Play with my animals they always make me feel happy – this is real mean but my cats love Sellotape so I make little traps on the floor and when they stand on it they run round like mad things! It is so damn funny, I lose the plot every time and they still love me 🙂 My family and boyfriend always make me laugh too, even at the silliest things.
S: I talk to my boyfriend he always makes me laugh or play with our cat, he’s nuts!
While you’re here, lets set some GDNZ mindful intentions! I will:
M: Do More … Stretching and relaxing!!
S: Do More … Yoga flows
M: See More … Of my own beautiful country New Zealand!
S: See More … Mountains and off the beaten track places, I like to explore countries that are not so main stream so you can really get into the culture and atmosphere while learning so much more about the place.
M: Be More … Time efficient and positive at squash even if I’m having an off day.
S: Be More … Social, I like to be a bit of a hermit and a nana sometimes.
How do you invest in your body?
M: By fuelling it with clean and nutrient dense foods as often as I can.
I move everyday – makes me feel amazing. I spaz out if I’m cooped up inside for too long haha.
S: We feed it with the real whole foods to fuel our bodies and intense exercise, no deprivation here! Plus chocolate we love chocolate – homemade or super dark of course 😉
How do you invest in your mind?
M: Being positive even in the not so good situations. Listening to my body. This is something I’ve only just started doing the past couple of years and I think it is so crucial.
S: Being relaxed, trying to decrease the amount of stress and not sweat the small stuff or even big stuff for that matter. Whatever happens happens and then its done so you can’t change that, only learn from it for next time.
How do you invest in your soul?
M: Laughing all the time. Spending time outside with my animals and up the hill. As well as lots of time with family.
S: Cooking and baking make me happy and make me feel relaxed. I love going on walks, especially love going up my hills at home – I literally smile the whole time!
In 5 years I will be…
M: Mmm goodness knows I don’t even know what I’m doing tomorrow haha. Hopefully something successful while doing something that I love.
S: If you find out let me know… I have no idea!! While I row I literally live 6 months at a time as its based on if/what team I make… I have no idea what I’ll be doing this time next year to be honest haha!
