Jess Reive | Featured Goal Digger GDNZ Edition

I have been thinking about how am I going to introduce Jess all week and do it in a way that does her complete and utter justice. Let me start by letting you know Jess set herself 61 flipping steps to take to work towards achieving her goals during our last coaching session a month ago and guess how many this machine achieved 61! Seriously! WTF! Every single session my crush for this girl grows stronger and I am constantly surprised, inspired and motivated by all that she sets out to achieve!! Some sessions I feel like I’m the one reaping all the benefits from our coaching relationship! This girl has BIG dreams and she is on fire to make that shit happen including owning her own gym, becoming a published author (OMG I have all the inside scoop on this babe’s book, it is going to be a killer! Watch this space Lisa Messenger!!) and owning her own clothing label! #goals anyone?

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Hello! I am Jess Reive and I am a 25 year old superwoman haha! Jokes, I like to think I am a super hero but this sometimes makes me think I can do absolutely anything and I take on too much (Thanks to Goal Diggers I now have this under control). Ever since I can remember I have been extremely involved in sports, and extremely passionate about it, and this is what lead to me chasing a career in the health and fitness industry, as well as becoming a Muay Thai fighter. I completed a Personal Training and Business diploma at the age of 18 and I have never looked back. Knowing what I wanted to achieve from a young age meant I had to make a lot of sacrifices, and although these may have been challenging at the time, they are honestly the best things I have ever done. I absolutely love cooking, and this passion made me share my own recipes with my clients, which eventually got turned into an eBook – Balance Cookbook.

Tell us a little bit more about Fitness Dynamics …

Fitness Dynamics is my baby, it is literally why I get up in the morning! It is currently a small studio based from my house in Auckland where I run group fitness classes and personal training sessions. I pride Fitness Dynamics on being the home of healthy lifestyle changes. I believe living a healthy lifestyle is so much more than going to the gym and working out and that is why we also provide ongoing nutritional advice, monthly workshops focusing on goal setting, self-defence, technique sessions, cooking lessons and so much more! Fitness Dynamics is different from most gyms because we have created an amazing community. Our members get together and go out for breakfast, they come and support my fights, they attend events together, and everyone knows everyone else’s name and how to motivate each other. You can guarantee that if I am not pushing you in a session, one of the other members is! Fitness Dynamics will be expanding soon, so if you are in Auckland keep a look out!

I am the bomb diggity because I have recently…

Fought in my first Muay Thai fight and I absolutely loved it. It is so hard to explain to people what it feels like when you step inside a ring and get ready to punch someone in the face, and receive a few yourself but I can tell you it is definitely something I will be doing again soon.

I was held back from achieving my goals when…

I started hanging out with a different crowd. It is true what they say, you mirror the people you spend the most time with. Due to a life event I went from being surrounded by positive role models and mentors who were pushing me to achieve all my goals, they literally believed there were no barriers I couldn’t break through, to being surrounded by people who partied most nights and took drugs in excess. I became trapped in this world I absolutely hated and it pushed me further and further away from my purpose and what I wanted to achieve. But once I made the decision to overcome this challenge, everything was back on track and my passion became even stronger.

What inspired you to sign up with GDNZ and start chasing you dreams…

Two things: Accountability and Focus! I have always been a massive goal setter, achieving lots in sports while growing up, but once I hit adulthood (I think I’m being an adult haha), I found that achieving goals became a little bit harder, because chasing your goals by yourself means there is no one else holding you accountable. I love having someone there that will give me a kick up the butt if I don’t achieve what I had set out to achieve. In terms of focus, I have thousands of ideas, they are great, but the downfall is that I try to do too much at once. Having a coach helps me identify what is most important to me and I focus on achieving these things first.

The best part about setting goals around my passion and living life my way is…

I am creating the life I have always dreamed about. After every session with Bridget I feel more energised and driven to achieving my goals. Living life the way you want it is a very thrilling feeling. A couple of the best aspects are that I control my day, which allows me to dedicate massive hours to training each week for Muay Thai fighting, and the best thing is that by me hitting my goals I am helping so many people create positive changes in their lives as well.

I’m a risk taker because…

I was doing extremely well in a gym I was working at. I had received a promotion, had been offered another promotion, was completely booked out with clients and I decided to get up and leave and start my own business. I had nowhere to run a business, no clients (because I wasn’t able to take any with me), and no money but I followed by my dream and made it all come together in a couple of short weeks. Don’t get me wrong I didn’t get to where I am now in a couple of short weeks, but I did open my doors!

Currently Digging for…

Right now I am goal digging to take Fitness Dynamics to the next level, and bring Auckland a fitness facility like it has never seen before. This new space will be a place where our eager members are motivated to change their lives. Our world class trainers are extremely motivated and caring, and bring you the best programs they possibly can. This centre will be the leader in the health and fitness industry within New Zealand. And while Fitness Dynamics is helping so many people achieve a healthy lifestyle I will also be travelling and competing in Muay Thai fights, fighting my way through opponents to earn a few titles.

The best part about owning and running my own business is…

I 100% get to do what I am passionate about! Although I have always worked in an industry I am passionate about, there are norms and boundaries you have to stick to when working for a company. I love that I have the freedom to branch out and explore all my ideas. I love that I am able to make the changes I believe need to happen within the industry without having to ask anyone else first.

And it is also amazing that I get to pick my own hours, which means I can create the time to chase other goals.

When I just need to laugh I…

Hang out with my mum! We are very close and have a ton of fun including water fights while washing dishes, playing charades, and just singing and dancing to all types of music.

IMG_2538While you’re here, lets set some magic and mindful intentions! I will…

Do More … Yoga and meditation. Something I have slacked off with and I know that it will help me in so many ways.

See More … Of New Zealand. I have lived here my whole life and haven’t been to the South Island, yet I have travelled throughout America, doh!

Be More… Present. I find so many times my mind can be in a hundred different places at once, I really want to start focusing on what I am doing in the moment, this means unplugging more!

I invest in my mind, body and soul by…

I invest in my body by working out, eating wholesome foods, and taking the time to rest. I look after my mind by doing some form of personal development every single day. This could be reading, listening to podcasts or audio books, or completing a course. I listen to my soul by practicing gratitude every morning and night.

My top 3 tips for living a kick-ass fulfilling life…

  1. Don’t give a s*** about what others think! If you want something go out and get it, don’t worry about what other people will think, you are doing this for you, not them.
  2. Get out of your comfort zone because this is where everything amazing happens.
  3. Enjoy the foods you love. Understand what foods are sometimes foods, and what are everyday foods, and then enjoy them both without guilt.

My typical day from AM to PM…

No two days are the same for me, and this is actually something I love. Although I live every day with purpose and intent on working towards my goals, they are filled with some many different things. However a general breakdown would look something like this;

5am Wake up and go through my morning routine of meditation, gratitude, and getting organized for the day.

6-10am and then 2-8pm This is generally when you can find me working. I take group fitness classes including kickboxing, circuit, abs and glutes, and I also run personal training sessions. When I am not physically training people I am working towards my goals of writing a book, opening a gym, and so much more.

The rest of the time is spent training, recovering, working on personal development and doing the things I love. I will train twice a day, this always includes an hour to 1.5 hours at my kickboxing gym and then a strength and conditioning session or a run. I always take some time out for myself, even if it is only a couple of minutes to colour in or do absolutely nothing. Every day I practice personal development by working on my goals, reading, listening to podcast and audio books. And then I have days where I catch up with friends and family for a meal, or hang out in the kitchen creating new recipes.
